The exciting opportunities provided by Chemical Engineering at Northeastern University are especially valuable for young researchers who are just starting their scientific careers. For my PhD, I do research at the Center for Advanced Microgravity Materials Processing (CAMMP), which is a NASA affiliated research center at Northeastern University. I have been investigating the growth of quantum wires in titanosilicates, and some of my experiments have been performed aboard the International Space Station (ISS). I also had the opportunity to work with an interdisciplinary team of engineers on chemistry preparation and mechanical assembly of the experimental setup prior to the space shuttle missions STS 112, 113 and 107 in Kennedy Space Center at Cape Canaveral, Florida. Watching my experiments leave the earth aboard the space shuttle Endeavour was an experience beyond words.
Although Northeastern University is more than 100 years old, it is still as eager for success as a young institution. This makes the research community here at Northeastern very active. In the research center that I work, there are many cutting-edge research projects on very diverse fields of chemical engineering and by just talking to my colleagues I can extend my horizon.
Boston is one of the most colorful cities in the US with its history and culture. But at the same time it is probably the biggest college town. Being in the heart of this vibrant city is another benefit that you get for studying here at Northeastern University. After a day of hard work, you can go watch a Red Sox or Celtics game, enjoy the symphony or just take a walk in the Boston Commons to unwind.

The time I spent towards my Master's degree in the Chemical Engineering Department at Northeastern University was one of the most valuable experiences of my life. This time not only added to my technical skills as a Chemical Engineer and gave me a direction in my career, but it also improved my personal qualities. Every challenge I faced at NU added to my educational and personal growth. I always felt lucky to be part of the family environment of the department in which all my needs were taken care of. Armed with these skills, I now feel qualified for all kinds of challenges in my career. I am thankful for the department's contributions for my bright future.
